Up in Vietnam pangasius exports

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first two months of 2018, the total export value of Vietnam pangasius reached US$264.7 million, up 15.7% over the same period last year. In the top 10 importing markets, exports to most of markets posted the positive growth compared to 2017 (except for the EU and Brazil).

China - Hong Kong: It is forecasted that in QI and QII/2018, the export value of pangasius to this market will continue to increase over the same period of 2017. However, the growth rate will decrease gradually though it is considered as the key market of many pangasius exporters when exports to the EU and Brazil face difficulties. As of February, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to this market valued at US$55.8 million, up 41.8% over the same period last year and accounted for 21.1% of the total value.

The U.S: In February, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to the U.S decreased slightly by 4.3% from the same period last year to US$15.9 million. The figure in the first two months of the year totaled US$42 million, up 15% year on year and represented 15.9% of total export value. In QII/2018, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to the market expected to increase slightly by about 5% over the same period last year.

ASEAN: In the first two months of 2018, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to ASEAN recorded the positive growth. Thanks to rises in exports to many single markets, the total export value to the region reached US$29.8 million, up 69.1% over the same period last year. In particular, the export value to top three largest single markets including Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines significantly went up 107.2%; 38.5% and 39.5 % respectively over the same period last year.

Other markets: In the first two months of this year, the export value of pangasius to the EU market continued to decrease. Of that, the export value to the Netherlands and Italy remained stable while that to the UK, Germany and Belgium went on the fall. With the current situation, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to the EU in QII/2018 forecasted to drop by 30% over the same period last year. Besides the EU, exports to other markets increased such as Mexico with 14.9%; Colombia with 52.5%; Saudi Arabia with 54.8% but exports to Brazil decreased by 30.3%.
