(vasep.com.vn) Southern Fishery Industries Company Ltd (Southvina) has met difficulties when exporting pangasius products to the EU, said Mr. Duong Viet Thang, the company’s Vice Director. Raw pangasius in Mekong Delta priced at around VND26,000 per kilogram, bank loan rate was higher and input costs kept rising. In this tough situation, Southvina tried to remain export price, but it failed to have more contracts.
In February 2012, both export volume and value are predicted to decrease by 30 percent from the previous month. Currently, pangasius exported to other markets like Middle East and Africa are falling to a very low price levels.
As the result, the company predicts more drop in export revenue in March if no or a few contracts are signed, particularly those with European importers.
In January, Southvina got greater export revenue than that of the same period last year because the firm has shipped abroad a large number of containers during the month’s first days. Currently, Southvina and other export companies get into troubles, as they cannot access to bank loans to invest in fish farming and exporting.
In the next time, export of pangasius to the U.S. and Canada will drop sharply; so many companies will be pushed out of business as the result of no order from foreign buyers and lack of capital for operating processing plant and paying worker’s salary, predicts Mr. Thang.
