(vasep.com.vn) Total pangasius exports in Q3/2014 was US$ 452.05 million, up 5.8% year on year. Pangasius exports in the first 9 months of 2014 worth US$ 1.276 billion, up 0.2% year on year. Pangasius is the second most exported seafood, after shrimp, with the proportion of 22% in total seafood export value of Vietnam.
Top 8 major markets for pangasius from Vietnam includes EU, ASEAN, the US, China & Hong Kong, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Saudi Arabia, making up 73.8% of total Vietnam’s pangasius exports. Vietnam sold pangasius to 148 markets, compared to 149 markets in the same period in 2013.
Pangasius farming area in Mekong Delta in the first 9 months was estimated at 6,000 hectares with production of 750 thousand MT. As reported by the provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development in Mekong Delta, pangasius production of most provinces downed slightly compared to the same period in 2013.
Average prices for highest quality raw pangasius from the beginning of the year till 22nd October 2014 ranged between VND 22,000 VND/ kg to VND 26,200/kg. The early July saw the lowest price of VND 22,200/kg. That some companies used raw material from their own farms created the price decline. However, this only maintained for a few days and then rose to over VND 23,000/kg.
