Seafood exports estimated to reach over US$4.61 billion

(vasep.com.vn) According to Directorate of Fisheries, aquaculture production in September 2013 was estimated to register 284 thousand MT, driving the estimated figure in the first 9 months of 2013 to 2,359 thousand MT, up 2.3 percent from the same time of 2012.

Pangasius output was gauged to generate 723 thousand MT on the farming area of 5,600 hectares.

Some provinces in the Mekong Delta reported high pangasius yield such as Dong Thap with 251,499 MT, An Giang (119,000 MT), Ben Tre (129,853 MT) and Can Tho (71,059 MT).

Shrimp exports was on the upward trend with the growth of 65.5 percent in August 2013. With the monthly average growth of US$250 million, shrimp shipment in 2013 is expected to achieve US$2.5-2.6 billion, representing an increase of 12-16 percent from that of 2012 (US$2.24 billion).

According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, seafood exports in September 2013 were on the increase with estimated export turnover of US$558 million. The figure cumulated to September 2013 was estimated to touch US$4.61 billion, up 3 percent from that of the same period of 2012.
