An additional eight seafood processing factories will be built in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap in 2008 in response to the rapid development of the local fisheries industry.
Once in operation, the total number of seafood processing establishments of the province will reach 16 with a total capacity of 200,000 tons of seafood per year. Local seafood producers have so far this year turned out 56,000 tons of aquatic products and exported nearly $58 million (€37.3 million) worth of seafood, a year-on-year increase of 118.2 percent.
In 2008, the province has targeted production of 66,000 tons of aquatic products and export of $200 million (€129 million) worth of seafood.
