Pangasius production up 10.5% in January 2015

(vasep.com.vn) Source from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) revealed that aquaculture production estimated at 186,000 MT in the first month of 2015, up 1.8% year-on-year.

In January 2015, pangasius was farmed in 2,100 hectares in Mekong Delta, up 0.8% with total yield around 24,000 MT, up 10.5% year-on-year.

Rearing area and yields rose in provinces such as Tien Giang, Ben Tre or Vinh Long. Among provinces, Ben Tre had the largest farming area, up 15% year-on-year.

During the month, raw pangasius was sold at higher prices, which encouraged farmers to expand their farming.

Pangasius exports began to recover from the June 2014 and increased gradually in QIII and QIV/2014. However, positive recovery was seen in markets like ASEAN, Mexico and China, while exports to larger markets like EU still fell.

Pangasius exports to the US started to increase from the QIII/2014 and as demand grew, average export prices rose.
