Pangasius price keeps raising in Mekong Delta

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Through April 18, 2014, processing companies have bought first-grade pangasius at VND25,000 – 25,500 per kilogram. With this price level, fish farmers earn the profit of VND2,000 each kilogram.

Currently, almost of large-scale companies in the region have their own pangasius farms to provide raw material for their processing chain. To survive in this situation, individual farmers should have a smart plan on pangasius farming in order to avoid the oversupply, which inevitably drives the fish price down. Farmers need to sign supply contract with processors or join their closed production chain before stocking fish in ponds.

Through March 2014, land for pangasius production in Mekong Delta was tightened compared to 2013: Vinh Long province had 421 hectares (-2.3 percent), Dong Thap 1,052 hectares (-2.9 percent). Due to lack of raw material for processing, local processors had to offer to buy raw pangasius at a higher price.

In the first two months, Vietnam exported US$275 million of pangasius products, up 8.5 percent year on year.
