Pangasius exports to Ukraine on the strong rise
(pangasius-vietnam.com) Through August 2013, Vietnamese pangasius exports to Ukraine valued at US$21 million, up over US$19.7 million in the same period of 2012, according to Vietnam Customs. Some exporters said that sales to this market jumped in three recent months.
Ukrainian demand for imported pangasius is expected to strongly increase in the coming months as pangasius products are welcome more and more by local consumers thank to high quality, food safety and reasonable price. Earlier this year, an inspection delegation of Ukraine State Agency for Fisheries visited Vietnam to assess the management of hygiene and food safety in Vietnamese seafood processing facilities and the monitoring system of farming, processing and transportation activities in order to ensure the quality of seafood products imported into Ukraine. The delegation highly appreciated the hygiene and food safety control of seafood and pangasius processing facilities in Vietnam.
Through August 2013, Vietnam pangasius exports totaled US$1.135 billion, a 1.6 percent drop against the corresponding time of 2012. Shipments to the EU continued to decrease by 13 percent to US$254.08 million. The U.S. has been the leading importer of Vietnamese pangasius with US$263.07 million, equal to a proportion of 23.2 percent.
