Pangasius exports to the U.S. rose but to EU declined

In Jan 1st - Feb 15th 2012, pangasius export value to the U.S. approached US$33.26 million, increasing from that of the same period of 2011 (US$22.88 million).

Vietnam pangasius exports to EU continued downward trend although the market remained the leading importer of Vietnam pangasius with the proportion of nearly 26 percent. In Jan 1st - Feb 15th 2012, Vietnam pangasius exports valued at US$47.97 million, down nearly 14 percent from that of the same period of 2011 (US$55.7 million).

European financial and economic situation remains gloomy. According to the latest forecast of European Commission (EC), the overall Eurozone economy will probably shrink 0.3 percent in 2012, down from a 0.5 percent growth forecast in November 2011.

A pangasius processor in An Giang province showed that EU represented 30 percent of its export proportion. Its trading and producing activities remained stable despite ongoing EU debt crisis. Austria, Spain, France, Germany are demanding markets of Vietnam pangasius enterprises. As of 15th Feb 2012, Vietnam pangasius exports to Spain (the leading pangasius importer of EU) were US$10.4 million, marking a reduction of 3.6 percent from that of the same period of 2011. The reduction this year was less than that of last year. The wholesale price of fresh and frozen finfish at Mercamadrid and Mercabarna markets, Spain was on upward trend in the last week of Feb and the first one of Mar. Purchasing power in Spanish is recovering.
