(vasep.com.vn) Directoriate of Fisheries under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecast pangasius products exported from Vietnam in 2015 would reach US$ 1.75 - 1.85 billion, equivalent to this year’s level.
Accordingly, pangasius farming area in 2015 will remain stable at 5,500 hectares, producing 1.1-1.2 million MT of fish.
In the first 11 months of 2014, pangasius exports is estimated at approximately 718,000 MT, and US$ 1.58 billion in value, up 0.5% by volume and 0.4% by value over the same period in 2013.
Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy General Secretary of VASEP predicted that pangasius exports in 2014 will be approximately US $ 1.8 billion, up 0.2% from 2013.
Reportedly, the number of registered pangasius export contracts is 6,672, from 193 companies. Most of these are contracts for exporting to EU (accounting for 18%), the United States (accounting for 10%), Hong Kong and China (accounting for 12%), Mexico (over 9%). Most of exported items are fillets, accounted for 80-86% of the total 370,000 MT of registered weight.
