(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In Jan 2017, Vietnam’s exports of pangasius to Brazil were quite good over the same period last year with the export value of US$12.1 million, up 17.2% compared with Jan 2016. If the growth continues in the coming months, Brazil will replace ASEAN as the fourth largest importing market of Vietnam pangasius (after the US, the EU and China – Hongkong).
Many pangasius exporters to Brazil in 2017 said that this market is easy to accept high quality pangasius products. However, the quality requirements of this market are very strict.
According to ITC statistics, Vietnam and Argentina are currently the two largest sources of whitefish for Brazil. It was followed by Chinese and Portuguese markets.
In 2016, Brazil mainly imported frozen hake fillet (HS 030474) and frozen hake (HS 030366) from Argentina; Alaska pollock fish products (HS 030475); Frozen hake fillet (HS 030474) and frozen cod fillet (HS 030471) from China; frozen cod fillet and frozen cod (HS 030363 and 030471) from Portugal.
Although Brazil's political situation continues to have a impact on Latin America's biggest economy, according to Vietnamese pangasius exporters, in coming time, the market’s demand for high quality pangasius continue to increase. And exporters must meet strict technical barriers with strict criteria. Currently, Vietnamese pangasius products have good competitiveness with other whitefish products in the Brazilian market.
