Offshore fishing vessels in Tra Vinh will be equipped with satellite receivers

Offshore fishing boats in Tra Vinh (a Mekong Delta province) and other 27 coastal cities and provinces nationwide will be connected with the Movimar satellite system under a French-funded project worth EUR14.3 million. Of the total funding, the French side contributes EUR13.9 million and the Vietnamese government VND10.2 billion (roughly EUR56 thousand).

The three-year project, starting from this year, will equip 20 offshore fishing boats in Tra Vinh province with satellite receivers. The capacity of each offshore fishing boat must be 90 HP or more.

The installation of satellite receivers helps the localities perfect their managerial system for fishing boats as part of efforts to realize modernization and industrialization of the fisheries sector, ensure the safety of vessels and the sovereignty of Vietnam waters.

The satellite receivers enable fishermen to define rich fishing grounds, save fuel, update weather forecast (the information about the approaching storms, low tropical pressure) and contact with other boats.
