(pangasius-vietnam.com) Vietnamese Prime Minister has recently approved the project on “Establishing a Sustainable Pangasius Supply Chain in Vietnam”, which is funded by the EU under its Switch-Asia Program. The project is run by the Vietnam Cleaner Production Centre (VNCPC).
The objective is to help Vietnamese pangasius industry improve its competitiveness in the global market. Under the project, the EU will directly offer assistances in the whole supply chain from pond to table in Vietnam: from fish production to final consumers. Currently, the EU is the biggest market for Vietnamese pangasius products.
The project runs within 4 years from 2013 to 2017 in Vietnam, focusing on strengthening the capacity of Vietnam pangasius industry towards a more responsible production in order to improve the quality of products, mitigate environmental impacts, reduce production costs through the application of Resources Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RE-CP) method, diversify products and develop consumer markets.
It also brings opportunity for small and medium companies and family businesses to be informed and receive technical assistances in applying current sustainable standards such as ASC, GlobalGAP in their production chain.
