Mekong River Delta shipped 65,000 MT of pangasius
(pangasius-vietnam.com) The Mekong Delta provinces have exported a further 15,000 MT of pangasius, raising the total export volume of pangasius since the beginning of this year to 65,000 MT, an increase of 4,000 MT year on year, valued at US$195 million.
Earlier, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) oriented farmers in the Mekong Delta not to expand fish farming areas but improve the quality of pangasius. In 2012, local farmers plan to export 600,000 MT of pangasius, equal to 2011 plan. In order to fulfil their objective, they have reared fish on a 6,000 hectare area in Dong Thap, An Giang, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Ben Tre provinces, and Can Tho city.
The provinces also plan to establish feed producing facilities, concentrated fish farming areas along with upgrade their infrastructure to meet international standards, for instance SQF 1000 and Global GAP in order to satisfy Vietnam pangasius importers’ demand of quality standards.
