According to the Department of Aquaculture (DoA), by the end of June 2009, farmers in the Mekong Delta provinces have stocked more than 1.8 billion of Pangasius fries in an area of 5,104ha, equivalent to 85.5 percent of the yearly plan. In June alone, farmers in the region harvested 87,622MT of Pangasius, pushing the total Pangasius output harvested in the first six months of 2009 to 321,769MT, the average output 247MT per ha per crop. High output of Pangasius saw in Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap and Vinh Long provinces. Presently, the area of ready for harvesting Pangasius, weighed from 0.7 to 1kg each, amounted to 330ha with predictable output of more than 100,000MT. (VietFish News)
