(IntraFish) India’s pangasius producers are not going to start exports overseas because they are not planning to go into value-added filleting yet, sources told IntraFish.
Many companies here sell pangasius in whole form, and are not interested in filleting, which is what foreign buyers usually want, said shrimp exporter Surya Mitra’s quality assurance manager, H.M. Singappaiah.
The company started pangasius production for the domestic market only last year, but is already cutting down to produce more vannamei because it is more profitable.
In addition, the quality of pangasius cannot be compared to those produced in Vietnam, said a source from an Indian feed company.
The fillet color of India’s pangasius is not as white as it needs to be for overseas exports, he said.
