Improving pangasius broodstock management
(pangasius-vietnam.com) On July 22nd, 2013, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) signed the Decision No.1673/QĐ-BNN-TCTS to issue regulation on selected pangasius broodstock management in order to improve the control of high yield broodstock in the producing provinces located in Mekong Delta.
By 2015, Vietnam expects to ensure supply of high quality and disease-free fish fingerlings, replacing the current broodstock in these provinces and looking towards a sustainable development of the local pangasius industry.
Selected pangasius provided to receiver centers for fingerlings production, needs to meet quality requirements and be embedded with electronic microchips to facilitate the management. The Research Institute of Aquaculture No.2 (RIA2) is responsible to select pangasius broodstock along with the request from Directorate of Fisheries. The institute is also in charge of conserving selected fish strains and actively producing pangasius broodstock; embedding chips in fish and delivering certificate to receiver centers to facilitate management and traceability; organizing training courses on fingerlings production for local receiver centers and fish hatcheries.
