Dong Thap province reached US$361.6 million of pangasius
(vasep.com.vn) In the first three quarters of 2012, Dong Thap-based companies exported 130,111 MT of pangasius products and earned US$361.6 million, up 164.4 percent in volume and 10.6 percent in value from January to September 2011, fulfilling 83.94 percent of the target for 2012.
During the public debts and economic downturn in the EU countries, sales of pangasius to this region fell below the level of 2011. As the result, exporters shifted their shipments to other 10 new markets. The province has sent fish products to 90 countries and territories.
To keep stable growth of pangasius export, government authorities should strengthen the control of fish production chain, including land used for fish farming, processing capacity as well as trend of demand for fish in international markets in order to set general planning for a long term and effective strategies for sustainable development.
