Ca Mau: Industrial shrimp farming area increased
(vasep.com.vn) For the year so far, total aquatic farming area of the province has reached 296,180 hectares in which shrimp farming area is 266,241 hectares and freshwater aquatic area is 28,281 hectares.
Industrial shrimp farming area of the province increased fast to reach 4,694 hectares; completing 94 percent of yearly plan; 1,300 hectares higher than 2011.
Farmers stocked shrimp seed on the area of 2,750 hectares and the other area is renovated to continue stocking. The province harvested 1,020 hectares with black tiger shrimp productivity of 5.5 MT per hectare and whiteleg shrimp of 8 MT per hectares.
Improved-extensive shrimp farming area was on upward trend with high productivity. The shrimp farming model of the province covered 20,400 hectares with a 2.5 time growth over 2011. Disease on farmed shrimp is still a persistent problem. For the year so far, diseased industrial shrimp farming area was 722 hectares while over 8,800 hectares of extensive shrimp farming area were infected with disease.
