(vasep.com.vn) In January - June
During the first six months of 2011, the average pangasius export price reached US$2.59 per kilogram. Fish export price to over 50 markets is higher than the average fish export price. In particular, fish export price to some markets reached US$4 per kilogram or more such as South Korea US$4 per kilogram, Japan US$4.05 per kilogram, Switzerland US$4.52 per kilogram. Fish export price to EU reached US$2.7 per kilogram. Fish export price to 16 countries out of 26 countries of EU block is higher than the average fish export price (US$2.59 per kilogram).
In January - June 2011, fish export volume and value to the Netherlands, Germany and Spain account for more than a half of total fish export volume and value to EU with export value of over US$50 million per country. Specifically, fish exports to the Netherlands reached 18,022 MT, worth US$51.7 million, up 37 percent in value; fish exports to Germany reached 17.898 MT, worth US$50.2 million, up 10 percent in value while fish exports to Spain reached 19,413 MT, worth US$50.1 million, down 19 percent in value and almost 30 percent in volume compared with those of January - June 2010.
Spain used to be the leading importer of Vietnam pangasius. During 5 last months, fish exports to the country have showed double digit drop (even 50 percent), the country is downgraded to the third rank among the top Vietnam fish importers. While fish exports to the Netherlands remains double digit growth, the country outstrips Spain and Germany to become the biggest Vietnam fish importer in EU block.
In the first six months of the year, the U.S. is the biggest market of Vietnam pangasius out of 131 importers of Vietnam fish with 38,839 MT, worth nearly US$135 million, up 85.5 percent in volume and 105 percent in value over the same period last year. During the period, fish export price to the U.S. reached high level of US$3.47 per kilogram. In June 2011, fish export price to the U.S. reached US$3.73 per kilogram, up on that of June 2010 (US$3.09 per kilogram). Apart from two key importers (the U.S. and EU), Vietnam fish exporters keep on expanding their market share to the countries in Eastern Europe, Soviet Union and Mediterranean area. Vietnam fish exports to these areas showed a positive growth. Hopefully, developing market share in these areas will bring promising results for Vietnam pangasius sector in particular, and seafood industry in general.
