ASEAN - the 4th largest importer of Vietnam pangasius
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of June 15th 2016, ASEAN was the 4th largest pangasius importer of Vietnam (after the US, EU, China - Hong Kong). This was a potential importing market of Vietnam in 2015. However, in some recent months, the shipments to this market showed a slight decrease.
According to the statistics, in the period, Vietnam pangasius exports valued US$62.35 million, down 2.4% from the same period last year. Of these, the exports to 3 largest single importers declined: Thailand down 0.6%; Singapore down 1.9% and the Philippines down 1.6% year on year.
So far, most of pangaius products exported to Thailand and Singapore were frozen fillets or steaks. Thailand remained the large and stable importer of Vietnam pangasius in the ASEAN. In Thailand market, pangasius from Vietnam has to compete with frozen Alaska pollock meat, frozen cod fillets, and frozen tilapia fillets.
