(vasep.com.vn) An My Fish Joint Stock Company (Anmyfishco) started to process and ship abroad five containers of frozen pangasius to buyers from the Syria and Middle East in the first days of the Lunar year 2012, Tran Thi Thuy, General Director of Anmyfishco said.
In 2011, the An Giang-based firm reached total export revenue of US$25 million thanks to actively investing into fish farming for raw material. Currently, pangasius prices showed slight increase compared to levels before Vietnam traditional Tet holiday in late January. As prediction of challenges - particularly fish supply - in 2012, since early this year, Anmyfishco expected to reach the export level of the previous year.
So far, the company has sold out products; however, it has to deal with lack of raw fish because supply of fingerling was poor and many farmers stop restocking. Beside difficulties like rising input cost, high rate of bank loans and instability in importing markets, Anmyfish worries most about finding enough raw material for processing for export.
