In the first half of the year, An Giang harvested 169,604 MT of seafood, equivalent to 101.53 percent (up 2.544 MT) from a year ago. In which, pangasius output was 145,297 MT, equivalent to 101.2 percent (up 1,688 MT) over the same half of 2010, accounting for 85.2 percent of An Giang total fish production.
The pangasius farmers were connected to processors; thus, they were ready to invest in intensive farming, reaching high fish yield. In contrary, small fish farmers did not make enough money to remain business.
In the coming time, An Giang will realize a project of replacing current broodstock, including cooperation in transfer and management of new generation broodstock. In addition, the province plans to inspect local hatcheries to estimate their capacity, equipments and conditions of receiving broodstock and set up a training program for these establishments.
