In 2007, fishery industry of An Giang province located in the south of Vietnam hit the highest growth historically. The farmed fish production of the province reached to 263,592 MT, up 44.8% over 2006. Pangasius taking the most important part with 216,526 MT, 1.5 time higher than those of 2006.
An Giang is one of the main pangasius producing regions in Vietnam. Pangasius products of the province are exported to 63 countries in the world. In 2007, the province earned US$ 335 million from exporting pangasius. It is expected that the exports would increase to US$ 430 million.
However, the industry officials of the province have concerned sustainable development of the industry. A sustainable developing plan has been made by the governmental authorities. According to that, by 2010, 90 percent of farms have waste water treatment system. Besides, the province will apply more effective planning and management in 2008.
