(vasep.com.vn) European buyers have been more interested in buying Vietnam pangasius products for domestic consumption as the region is under pressures of financial stress due to public debts, which made local consumers turn to seafood products with good quality and reasonable price.
At the same time, An Giang-based pangasius export companies were still dealing with many obtacles in keeping business as the result of bank bank loans’ high interest rate, uncertain supply of raw fish for processing. However, An Giang Department of Industry and Trade said that pangasius sales abroad has slightly increased in the first nine months compared to the same period of 2011 and demand for this kind of fish is gradually recovering after summer vacations in main consuming markets.
Currently, Vietnamese processing companies purchase raw pangasius at VND22,800 – 23,000 per kilogram for whitemeat pangasius weighing from 0.8 to 1 kilogram; VND22,500 – 22,700 per kilogram for light pink meat pangasius of the same size; and VND21,800- 22,000 per kilogram for yellow meat pangasius.
