The fact that DOC considering deliberately the Philippines (instead of Bangladesh) as the referential country to calculate the anti-dumping duty margin on Vietnamese pangasius makes Vietnamese enterprises suffer from as high rate as 130%. Certainly, it has great influence on Vietnamese pangasius exporters. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Ky, General Director of Agifish, the company will not face difficulties because in the 6th administrative review POR6, Agifish only exports to the U.S in CF prices, so in case Agifish has to pay tax, its customers will have to take responsibility and Agifish do not have to pay any anti-dumping duty.
In the first 8 months of the year, Agifish has exported 1,770 tons of pangasius to the U.S, valued at 5,707,901 USD (also in CF price), accounting for over 10.13% of the total export production, so Agifish’s business plan in 2010 has not been affected much.
However, according to Mr. Ky, in short or long term, Agifish as well as other enterprises should keep CF pricing mode so that U.S importers have to take more responsibility on us.
Agifish still considers the U.S as a potential market, so it often exchanges with the U.S customers to stabilize this market, at the same time Agifish develops other markets with products of which price and quality are more reasonable.
Concerning POR6, Agifish is ready to take part with VASEP to appeal under any form, contributing to support customers at present.
