80 percent of new vessels made from steel by 2020

(vasep.com.vn) In September 9th 2012, the discussion meeting on daft of pilot project of fishing, preserving, purchasing and processing chain held. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vu Van Tam attended the meeting.

According to Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish), the country has 2,426 ocean tuna fishing which are mainly located in three provinces (Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa). In 2011, ocean tuna catch production nationwide reached 11,844 MT in which the largest production of 5,649 MT was reported in Phu Yen province. In the first 6 months of this year, tuna capture production gained 11,703 MT in which Phu Yen attained 5,500 MT. For the year to date, fishermen caught tuna by line and hook tuna fishing with high catch landings.

According to a draft of the project, by 2020, ocean tuna sector will be restructured for the whole production chain from fishing, preserving, processing to exporting. All tuna fishing vessels will operate under offshore fishing groups and will be supplied necessary information and reports on fishing ground.

80 percent of new vessels were made of steel or new materials which can reduce 10 percent of post harvest loss. The preferential projects include: investigating fish stocks in the second phase, forecasting fishing grounds, building 30 modern tuna fishing vessels which are made of steel for farmers in Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa provinces.
