40 percent of pangasius farming area certified by international standards

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Pangasius is the main seafood item of agricultural sector. Besides small-scale fish farmers, in the Mekong River Delta, pangasius farming areas certified by international standards have recently been expanded remarkably.
According to Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish), the tighter linkage in pangasius production chain has recently been more expanded. Now, many seafood processors in the Mekong Delta have their own fish farming areas. Many of them can meet 60 – 70 percent of raw material for their processing.
More and more pangasius farming areas are recognized by international standards. 40 percent of fish farming area in the Mekong River Delta, equal to 2,000 hectares was certified by GlobalGap standards. An Giang, Can Tho, Vinh Long are the provinces having the largest certified farms.
Fish farming areas in compliance with Global GAP standards are mainly located at An Giang, Can Tho, Vinh Long provinces, in which An Giang province has the largest farming area under Global GAP with more than 200 hectares. Besides, there are many associated models in pangasius production in the locality which shows efficiency such as model of fish production chain in An Giang province, model of fish production co-operatives in Can Tho city.
