(vasep.com.vn) On June 8th 2013, in Quang Ngai province, Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) held a conference to sum up two-year activities of fishing unions established as a pilot project.
According to VGCL, there are 36 fishing unions located in 12 provinces or cities of the country with the participation of 1,746 fishing vessels and nearly 6,000 fishermen.
Fishing unions gained initial achievements in representing and protecting fishermen’s interests, harmonizing the relationship among ship owners of vessels, relationship between owners and fishermen. Fishing under unions also help to raise fishermen’s awareness of the State’s policies, laws, the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, responsibility for protecting the country's sea and island sovereignty, Mr. Dang Ngoc Tung, chairman of VGCL said.
