Vietnam - the 4th largest supplier of processed squid to EU

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) EU tend to raise imports of cephalopod in 2016. Spain was the largest importer in the bloc, followed by Italy and Portugal.

Spain accounted for 39% of total import value of cephalopod into EU; Italy accounted for 33% and Portugal accounted for over 6%.

Morocco is the leading supplier of cephalopod into Europe, accounting for 25% of total imports of the  block. Vietnam ranked the 11th, occupying 1.5% of total imports. Senegal made up the same proportion with Vietnam with the 10th position.

EU imports the most frozen squid (HS030749), followed by frozen octopus (HS030759). These two items accounted for over 80% of total imports of cephalopod into EU. Live, fresh, chilled squid (HS 030741) ranked the 3rd in the import value into the EU, accounting for 6%. The next was processed squid (HS160554), making up over 4%. It was followed by live, fresh, chilled octopus (HS030751) and processed octopus.

Vietnam was the 4th largest supplier of processed squid to EU, making up 6% of total imports of the item into EU. The exported proportion of processed squid of Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2016 was higher than that of the same period in 2015. However, the average import price of Vietnamese processed squid in the period tends to decrease compared to 2015 , but higher than the average import price of EU.
