Vietnam’s bivalve mollusk exports to Portugal surged

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Imports of bivalve mollusks into Portugal in the first 9 months of 2016 tended to go up over the same period last year. Spain is the leading supplier of bivalve mollusks to the market, followed by Viet Nam and New Zealand.

Exports of bivalve mollusks of top 3 suppliers to Portugal have increased this year. According to statistics of General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s bivalve mollusk exports to Portugal were worth by US$13.6 million, up 28.3% over the same period last year. Portugal stayed as the second largest importer of  mollusks in the EU, behind Spain.

Portugal imported processed clams (HS code 160556) from 4 countries, including Viet Nam, the Netherlands, South Korea and Spain. Of that, most of processed clam imports into the country were from Viet Nam, which accounted for about 95%. Imports of processed clams into Portugal this year increased steadily from QI to QIII, with the lowest volume in QIII.

The average import price of processed clams into Portugal in the first 9 months of this year ranged from US$1,471-1,616/MT. In which, the average import price from Viet Nam was about US$1,454-1,597/MT.
