Nov 2016: Vietnam’s cephalopod export to China rocketed

However, in Nov 2016, exports to China-Hong Kong valued at US$2.17 million, sharply increasing by 69.8% year on year, those to Hong Kong went up 111.6%. This was the 2nd month in Jan-Nov 2016, shipments to China-Hong Kong reported the positive growth as well as the highest growth rate.

Imports of cephalopod into China in 2016 were on the downward trend. Indonesia was currently the leading supplier of this item to China. However, imports from Indonesia into China in 2016 also tended to slow down from the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, imports from New Zealand and the US into China leaped up from the end of QII/2016.

In 2016, China mainly imported frozen squid (HS code 030749), followed by processed squid (HS code 160554). The average import price of frozen squid into China in 2016 fluctuated from US$1.76 to US$2.61 per kg. Import prices of frozen squid into China rose steadily through the year.

As China, imports of cephalopod into Hong Kong in 2016 also tended to decline. Taiwan stayed as the largest seller to Hong Kong, followed by Thailand and Japan. The average import price of cephalopod from Taiwan into this market in Jan-Sep 2016 ranged from US$5.01 to US$5.99 per kg, equal to the same period of 2015. The import price from Japan doubled since products imported from Japan were mainly processed items.
