Which trend for Vietnamese seafood export in 2013?

(vasep.com.vn) In 2012, Vietnam seafood export reached US$6.134 billion, up 0.3 percent from that of 2011. The result in 2012 marked the hard work and big efforts of all players in the context of persistent internal difficulties and challenges in global markets.

Lack of capital for farming and processing to export, lower export price in main importing markets, uncertain supply and weak control of quality of products were the main factors for a slide of 3.4 percent in Vietnam pangasius export with US$1.74 billion.

Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS) on shrimp, rising production cost and higher price of raw material, weak demand from global market and Ethoxyquin unfair barriers affected to shrimp industry, pushing shrimp export down by 6.6 percent to USS$2.25 billion compared to US$ 2.4 billion in 2011.

Meanwhile, exports of marine products remained positive growth as the country ensured raw material for processing from higher domestic catching and import. Marine product export reached US$2.25 billion mainly thanks to growth of 50 percent in tuna trading and 21 percent in sales of other marine fish, fish paste and surimi products.

Which trend for Vietnamese seafood export in 2013? Whether the industry could reach the best result of US$6.4 billion of export value? Will the persistent difficulties like lack of capital, raw material, trade barriers be relieved?

Thanh Hoa promotes high-tech shrimp farming

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Thanh Hoa’s shrimp sector is undergoing a strong transformation by accelerating the adoption of high technology, helping to improve productivity, increase profits, and meet market demands. The province currently has about 4,100 hectares of shrimp farming, with output continuing to rise despite stable farming area, mainly due to the shift from traditional methods to intensive and super-intensive farming.

Vietnam’s crab exports brighten in 2026, but face pressure from reliance on major markets

(vasep.com.vn) Amid ongoing volatility in global seafood trade, Vietnam’s crab exports have made a fairly positive start to 2026. According to Vietnam Customs statistics, export turnover in the first two months of 2026 reached nearly USD 55 million, up 24% compared to the same period in 2025 and more than 2.2 times higher than in the same period of 2024. This indicates that crab exports are entering 2026 with stronger growth momentum, particularly in Asian markets.

Ho Chi Minh City approves aquatic animal disease prevention and control plan for 2026–2030

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On March 10, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1377/QD-UBND approving the Aquatic Animal Disease Prevention and Control Plan for the 2026–2030 period. The decision takes effect from the date of signing and replaces previous plans for the 2021–2030 period that had been issued prior to the administrative merger in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City.
