Vietnam pangasius sales to China saw strong growth

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first ten months of 2018, the export value of Vietnamese pangasius export to China - Hong Kong market reached US$437.9 million, up by 30.6% over the same period in 2017. Despite the slower pace of the the export growth rate, it is forecasted that by the end of the year, exporting pangasius to China is still stable with a double-digit growth rate.

In third quarter of 2018, pangasius exports to China has slowed down, with the gradually decreasing growth rate compared to the same period last year. Pangasius export value to China in this quarter fell by 16.6% compared to the previous quarter. However, exports to Hong Kong market remained at the same level compared to the second quarter.

Currently, Vietnam is the 3rd largest whitefish supplier for China market, following Russia and Norway.

Frozen Cod (HS code 030363), frozen Alaska pollock (HS code 030367) and frozen pangasius (HS code 030462) are the three largest import product groups of China in 2017. However, the proportion of Cod products accounted for 41.5% of the total value of white fish imports in China, while pangasius and basa accounted for 5.7%.

Vietnam pangasius exports in February 2026: China remains the leading market

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In February 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached USD 119 million, down slightly 5% year-on-year. However, thanks to strong performance in January, cumulative exports in the first two months of the year still reached USD 331 million, up 28% compared to the same period in 2025. Export activity slowed somewhat in February due to seasonal factors, particularly the Lunar New Year holiday, which disrupted production and shipments at many seafood processing enterprises.
