Viet Nam's seafood exports in 2021 increased mainly thanks to frozen and dried products

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2021, seafood exports have increased mainly thanks to the form of fresh/frozen/dried products. The total value of exported processed seafood products (HS code 16) accounted for 28%, reaching nearly 2.5 billion USD, nearly equivalent to 2020. Meanwhile, live, fresh, dried and frozen aquatic products, surimi, fish cakes... (HS code 03) achieved export value of 6.4 billion USD, up 6.5% and accounting for 72% of total seafood export value.

In 2021, shrimp exports account for nearly 44%, reaching nearly 3.9 billion USD, pangasius accounts for 18% with over 1.6 billion USD, other fish accounts for 19% with nearly 1.7 billion USD. Tuna exports brought in 759 million USD, up 17% and accounting for 8.5%, squid and octopus accounted for nearly 7% with 608 million USD.

Exported aquatic products, which brought in the highest turnover in 2021, include whiteleg shrimp with nearly 3 billion USD, accounting for 33% of total seafood exports, followed by pangasius and tuna. Black tiger shrimp brought in 759 million USD, accounting for 7%, fish cakes and surimi brought in 619 million USD, accounting for 7%. Next is squid with 315 million USD, octopus with 294 million USD, each species accounts for over 3% of seafood export value.

Among the top 10 products are salmon, scad, and anchovies, accounting for 2.7%, 1.6% and 1.3% respectively.

Many aquatic species and products with export value grew strongly by 2-3 figures in the past year. In which, exports of surimi increased by 26%, octopus increased by 15%, scad increased by 40%, clams increased by 52%, crabs increased by 37%, seabass increased by 15%, fish sauce increased by 25%, and yellowstripe scad increased by 19%. ..

The Covid epidemic caused transportation costs to increase, reducing orders from imported materials for processing, so the export of species such as salmon, cod, pollock, saba, and red shrimp all decreased.
