Mr. To Van Chua's household in Hamlet 2 has 4 ponds, providing a stable income every day. He has implemented several models such as industrial shrimp farming, eel farming, and snakehead fish farming, but the results were not very good; he took advantage of the above ponds to raise tra fish. Mr. Chua said: "I took leftover food from restaurants to feed the fish, and I found it profitable to sell it. Since then, for the past 6 years, I have maintained the tra fish farming model."
Every day, at dawn, Mr. Chua's family pulls the net to catch about 70 kg of fish, about 2-3 kg/fish, to sell at the market in the Kinh Moi culvert area. According to Mr. Chua, catfish are disease-free and easy to raise, the main thing is to ensure a clean water source in the pond; the fish can be sold after about 18 months of raising, at a price of 35-45 thousand VND/kg.
Mr. Chua added: “Every year I harvest fish and earn about 200 million VND, with about 20,000 fish. In the future, I will continue this model and possibly expand the farming area.”
Mr. Cao Van Thom, Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tan Xuyen Ward, informed: "The Association propagates to farmer members and all people in the ward to take advantage of vacant land and abandoned ponds to renovate and develop a commercial pangasius farming model to increase income. At the same time, combine with agricultural and fishery extension forces to guide the farming process and techniques, especially the selection of breeds and renovation, to raise more effectively."
Many farmers take advantage of previous fish and shrimp ponds to carry out commercial pangasius farming models.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam’s pangasius export value to China (including Mainland China and Hong Kong) reached $483 million, up 1% compared to the same period in 2024. October alone posted $73 million, a strong 19% increase year-on-year. The Chinese market currently accounts for nearly 27% of Vietnam’s total pangasius export value.

This performance extends the sector’s impressive growth streak from earlier in the year, pushing cumulative exports for the first 10 months to $712 million, up an extraordinary 135% year-over-year. Within the product mix, green lobster remained the dominant driver, accounting for 98% of total export value, with $700 million recorded in the first 10 months - a 141% jump year-on-year. In contrast, exports of spiny lobster and other lobster varieties declined slightly by 22% and 1%, respectively, indicating that market demand is becoming increasingly concentrated on the most sought-after product line.
