Vietnam pangasius has advantages of affordable prices, aromatic flavor, fish filets with no bones and ease of processing, which has to strongly compete with whitefish products in the EU. However, Vietnamese pangasius's image as well as consumption of the product in the market was significantly influenced by mass media recently.
In the first four months of this year, the sharp rises in exports of value-added products to top 2 largest importers in the bloc including the Netherlands and Spain was a good sign for Vietnam’s pangasius, which emphasized the shift was right.
Compared to the average price of US$1.4 - 3.65 for frozen fillets product (HS code 0304), processed pangasius (HS code 16) with the average export price of US$3.85 - 5.65/kg is being sold well in some markets. Of that, export prices of fried pangasius rolled with broccoli; pangasius rolled with sauce, tomato, mango, pineapple; frozen breaded pangasius to Germany, frozen breaded pangasius fillets, portion cut to Spain; frozen breaded pangasius; frozen breaded pangasius nuggets to the Netherlands quoted good prices of US$4.45 to 5.50/kg. In the Jan-Apr this year, Vietnam’s exports of processed pangasius (HS code 16) to top 4 major importing markets in the EU including the Netherlands, Spain, Germany and Belgium recorded the good growth.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On March 10, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1377/QD-UBND approving the Aquatic Animal Disease Prevention and Control Plan for the 2026–2030 period. The decision takes effect from the date of signing and replaces previous plans for the 2021–2030 period that had been issued prior to the administrative merger in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City.

However, thanks to strong performance in January, cumulative exports in the first two months of the year still reached USD 331 million, up 28% compared to the same period in 2025. Export activity slowed somewhat in February due to seasonal factors, particularly the Lunar New Year holiday, which disrupted production and shipments at many seafood processing enterprises.

Many shrimp farms have invested in automated environmental monitoring systems, continuously tracking indicators such as pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and salinity, enabling farmers to promptly adjust pond conditions and reduce disease risks.

These factors are seen as key to improving seed quality and strengthening the competitiveness of the shrimp industry amid increasingly demanding market requirements.
