Fisheries production reached 1.56 million MT in the first four months

(vasep.com.vn) According to Viet Nam’s General Statistics Office, fisheries production in April totaled an estimated 409,800 MT, up 0.4 percent compared to the same period of 2012 in which finfish production declined by 0.5 percent to 321,300 MT; shrimp production registered 36,600 MT, up 4 percent; and the production of other marine products went up by 3.4 percent to 51,900 MT.

The aquaculture production in April 2013 was estimated at 187,300 MT, down 4 percent year on year in which pangasius production gained an estimated 148,400 MT, down 6 percent; shrimp output reached 27,500 MT, up 4.2 percent and marine products touched 11,400 MT, up 5.6 percent.

In April 2013, pangasius production in An Giang gained an estimated 18,000 MT, down 18 percent; Can Tho 7,400 MT, down 1.4 percent; Ben Tre 22,000 MT, down 29 percent; and Vinh Long 1,800 MT, down 52 percent. Black tiger shrimp production in Ca Mau reached 11,000 MT, nearly equal to the same period of the last year; and Bac Lieu 6,500 MT, up 6.2 percent.

In April, capture production was estimated to hit 222,500 MT, up 4.4 percent from the same period of 2012 in which marine catch reached 212,500 MT, up 4.6 percent.

In the first four months of 2013, fisheries production was estimated to reach 1.56 million MT, up 0.9 percent year on year in which aquaculture production touched 687,300 MT, down 2.7 percent and catch volume turned over 873,700 MT, up 4 percent year on year. Out of catch volume, marine catch generated 825,000 MT, up 4.3 percent over the same period of 2012 with finfish production of 633,000 MT (+4.4 percent); shrimp output of 35,900 MT (3.5 percent). Marine catch is mainly offshore associated to giant finfish, especially ocean tuna.

In Jan-Apr 2013, capture production in Binh Dinh was 3,100 MT, up 76.1 percent year-on-year; Phu Yen with 3,900 MT, up 8.9 percent.

Soc Trang Province: Promoting sustainable, concentrated, and clean brackish water shrimp farming

Export surimi with many challenges

Dong Thap: Developing the pangasius industry towards increasing value-added and sustainable growth

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Dong Thap is a key region for pangasius farming, boasting the largest production in the Mekong Delta. In the first seven months of 2024, the estimated aquaculture area reached 4,778 hectares, with a harvest yield of 307,336 tons. Of this, the intensive pangasius farming area covered 2,042 hectares, with a harvest of 252,670 tons.

Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU show positive signs

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in the first half of August 2024, Vietnam's pangasius exports to the EU reached nearly 8 million USD, up 57% over the same period. Cumulative pangasius exports to this market as of August 15, 2024, reached 107 million USD, up 0.5% over the same period last year.
