Export determines pangasius production

(vasep.com.vn) In the first half of 2015, pangasius farming area in Mekong Delta was approximately 5,795 hectares, down 3.7% year-on-year.

According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in QI and QII, pangasius production was affected by decline in export and unstable price. Higher temperatures maintaining in many days causing disease on pangasius is also a factor that discouraged farmers to rear the fish. As a result, pangasius farming area decreased in some provinces. For instance, the area declined by 24.2% in Hau Giang, by 26% in Tien Giang and by 23.9% in Ben Tre. 

In H1/2015, pangasius production in Mekong Delta was 533,500 MT, flat from last year. A representative of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said, “Farming area declined but with the seek for new markets enabled gain in production. Pangasius production increased year-on-year in some provinces. “

Da Nang city takes strong action against IUU fishing

This is a steep and prolonged decline for many consecutive months, reflecting changes in import demand as well as shifts in the supply structure of this market.

For the first 10 months of the year, total export value has surpassed $1.8 billion, up 9% year-on-year. This growth demonstrates clear positive momentum for the pangasius industry, despite continued declines in certain markets.

This is one of the highest monthly revenues since the beginning of the year, reflecting solid demand in major markets and faster shipment schedules by exporters. From January to October, shrimp export value reached USD 3.9 billion, up 22% compared to the same period in 2024.

The overall trend for the pangasius industry remains positive, with total exports in the first nine months of 2025 reaching nearly USD 1.6 billion, an increase of 9% year-on-year.
