GENERAL INFORMATION

In Vietnam, the fishery sector plays an important role in the national economy, accounting for about 4-5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and about 9-10% of national export revenue.

More than 4 millions of people working in the fishery and the growth in production have attributed to the fish exports. Thanks to strongly increase in many years, Vietnam ranks among the top ten seafood suppliers and its seafood products are exported to 170 markets in the world.

Shrimp, pangasius, tuna, squid and octopus are main seafood products exported by the country. In which, shrimp exports create about US$ 3.5 – 4 billion, make up 46-50% of the total seafood sales of Vietnam. Earnings from pangasius reached at US$ 1.7 – 1.8 billion (25% of the total) and exports from Tuna and Cephalopods are US$ 450 – 550 million for each.

Exports to the U.S, Japan, EU, China and South Korea make up 75% of Vietnam’s seafood sales to the wolrd.

5 advantages for Vietnam seafood exports:  

(1)  High commitment and participation from Government, Industry and companies for food safety, environment  and social responsibility;

(2)  Able to supply the big volume and safe quality and stable seafood products;

(3)  Meet all the customers’ requirements, incl. the vertical linkage (integration) for each species sector;

(4)  Vietnam is one in few countries in the world which has the good and stable labor resource; 

(5)  Vietnam has Agreements / FTAs with many countries and territories and has advantages both in product quality and im-ex tax.  

Seafood Expo Global 2023: Vietnamese enterprises' participation doubled compared to last year

(seafood.vasep.com) On April 25, 2023, the 29th Seafood Expo Global was held at Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain. This is one of the largest Seafood Trade Fairs in Europe and the world.

This year's exhibition attracts more than 20,000 exhibitors from 77 countries around the world, occupying nearly 40,000 square meters of space. Seafood import-export and trading companies, seafood experts from 150 countries around the world, from processing, farming, fishing to supporting industries, etc. This is also a specialized exhibition that has a number of national pavilions with up to 70 stalls.

The motto of Vietnam's seafood throughout the 2023 International Fairs will be "Vietnamese Fisheries - Sustainable Destination"

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) registered an area of 464m2 and set it up as the national pavilion of Vietnam. Attending this year's exhibition, there are a total of 38 Vietnamese seafood enterprises, double that of 2022. In which, there are 15 shrimp processing companies, 13 pangasius processing companies and 3 tuna exporting companies, and 7 companies processing aquatic products in general. The representative of Vietnam has leading famous seafood processing enterprises such as: HAVUCO, Minh Phu Corporation, CL-FISH CORP, HAI NAM Co.,Ltd, TPS, Phu Cuong SEAFOOD, IDI Corp, DATACO, T&T CO., Ltd, Khang An Foods, Meksea, Mekongfish, HUNGHAU FISHERIES, Silvera, TRONG NHAN SEAFOOD Co.,Ltd, KIM ANH CO.,LTD.

The main products displayed at the exhibition include pangasius, shrimp, tuna, tilapia, clams, cephalopods, dried seafood products, value added goods, mixed foods. Deep-processed products are very diverse, convenient and unique. Besides, Vietnam also offers "ready to eat" "ready to cook" products that meet the rapidly changing consumption trends after the pandemic. This exhibition attracts many importers and traders looking for new sources of supply for the supermarket system. This event is like a “door” for Vietnamese enterprises to test and introduce products during the transition process from raw materials to value-added products.

Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU reached over $1.3 billion in 2022, an increase of 21.6% compared to 2021. Most of Vietnam's key seafood exports to the EU market have grown strongly. Although the world situation has many fluctuations, which directly and indirectly affect Vietnam's seafood exports, the EU has always been one of top export markets for Vietnamese seafood.

The motto of Vietnam's seafood throughout the 2023 International Fairs will be "Vietnamese Fisheries - Sustainable Destination" to convey the message that the Vietnam seafood industry is transferring to  a green, clean, sustainable orientation.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Spain, Mr. Hoang Xuan Hai and commercial counselor, Mr. Vu Chien Thang visited Vietnamese seafood enterprises to exchange information, grasp the situation of seafood exports in Vietnam. The Vietnam Trade Office in Spain also had a representative to attend the fair to meet, encourage and exchange information with businesses.

Within the framework of the fair, the VASEP continues to organize propaganda activities, paying attention to the two main products of Vietnam, which are shrimp and pangasius, through the provision of propaganda publications.
