(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On June 21th 2017, WWF-Vietnam in collaboration with Soc Trang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a workshop "Value Chain Promotion and the ASC certification for linkages between enterprises and shrimp farming cooperatives in Soc Trang".
Since 2016, WWF has partnered with Nordic Seafood and Stapimex to assist small scale shrimp farmers in the Mekong Delta to adopt better management practices and achieve ASC certification. Accordingly, Hoa Nghia shrimp farming cooperative is one of the co-operatives, which WWF helps to shift to sustainable shrimp farming.
Currently, the co-operative has 29 members, with 60 ha of ASC-certified shrimp farming area. This will help shrimp farmers export their products to large markets such as European and American countries.
During the workshop, the representatives of Hoa Nghia shrimp cooperative shared its initial results in establishing the value chain associated with Stapimex as well as the advantages and difficulties in the implementation process.
On this occasion, WWF - Vietnam awarded the certificate of meeting the ASC standards on aquaculture for shrimp farming cooperative Hoa Nghia.
