(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On the evening of December 23, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) held a ceremony to celebrate the seafood export milestone of 10 billion USD, with hopes for continued growth in 2025. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, and representatives from various ministries, as well as domestic and international partners.
At the event, VASEP President Nguyen Thi Thu Sac shared that in 2024, the seafood industry achieved its goal of 10 billion USD in exports despite numerous challenges, including inflation, international conflicts, and rising transportation costs. Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien commended VASEP for its efforts in connecting businesses, improving product quality, and expanding markets. Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang reaffirmed the Foreign Ministry’s commitment to supporting the seafood industry by connecting partners and diversifying export markets.
During the ceremony, Tran Dinh Luan, Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, announced a decision to award a certificate of merit from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to VASEP Secretary General Truong Dinh Hoe for his outstanding contributions to promoting Vietnam’s seafood exports. Additionally, 49 seafood businesses with exceptional export achievements in 2024 were honored.
In 2024, seafood exports reached 10 billion USD, with key products such as shrimp (4 billion USD), tra fish (2 billion USD), tuna (1 billion USD), and other seafood items, affirming the position of Vietnam’s seafood industry in over 170 countries. Seafood companies have adapted flexibly, overcoming challenges while maintaining steady growth, particularly in shrimp and tra fish.
Vietnam’s seafood industry contributes 16% of the total agricultural export value, ranking third globally, after China and Norway. Vietnamese seafood companies continue to enhance product quality and expand markets to develop sustainably.
