An Giang province's aquaculture output is predicted to reach 172.3 thousand tons in the first quarter of 2024, up 6.37% (+10.3 thousand tons) from the same time the previous year.

Due to the high cost of feed and aquaculture medicine, fish farmers are losing money at this selling price. Farmers nevertheless continue to harvest their fish in an effort to offset rising prices.

In the quarter, almost 95 tons of various aquatic species were harvested, rising 6.74% (+6 tons) from the same period the previous year due to stable demand and good selling prices.

Regarding the production of aquatic seeds, the estimated total quantity of seedlings produced in the quarter is around 32 million, representing a decrease of 3.38% compared to the same period last year.

Seafood catch: Every year, the relevant authorities organize fish release campaigns into rivers to regenerate natural aquatic resources. The estimated inland catch in the quarter is approximately 589 tons (mostly various types of fish, accounting for 97.92% of the production), marking a decrease of 1.18% compared to the same period last year.
