Speaking at the 3rd European Tuna Conference, WWF’s Daniel Suddaby said this is “quite a goal.”
The aim is part of WWF’s Smart Fishing initiative, a program Suddaby -- formerly of the MSC -- joined three months ago.
WWF intends to work with the tuna regional fishery management authorities (RFMOs), increase focus on finding solutions to by-catch with investments and training.
MSC certification is the only fishery certification standard that uses a third party process and allows for stakeholder input, so this is why WWF has chosen this as the standard, said Suddaby.
