(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2018, while Vietnam’s tuna exports to EU countries were unstable, exports to Portugal experienced the impressive growth. Currently, Portugal was put in top 10 single largest markets for Vietnamese tuna.
According to Vietnam customs, Vietnam’s tuna exports of Portugal in the first five months of 2018 totaled US$5.9 million, accounting for 2.4% of the total value of Vietnamese tuna export. Compared with the same period in 2017, Vietnam's tuna exports to this market inched up over 262%.
This year, Vietnamese companies boosted exports of other processed tuna products. While last year other processed tuna products of Vietnam did not reach this market, but this year exports of this item to the market hit more than US$3.5 million. This year, Vietnamese exports of frozen tuna fillets to the country also rose by over195%.

Meanwhile, imports of tuna into Portugal also increased. According to ITC statistics, in the first 4 months of 2018, tuna imports of this country reached nearly 18 thousand MT, worth by nearly US$71 million, up 4% in volume and 24% in value over the same period in 2017.
In the range of products, processed/canned tuna is the most imported products into this market; followed by frozen yellowfin tuna products. The import price of processed/canned tuna into Portugal during this period ranged from US$5.77 to US$6.43/kg. That of frozen yellowfin tuna ranged from US$2.36 to US$4.4/kg. The import price of these two products imported into Portugal tended to decrease in the last 3 months.
