Vietnam currently ranked the 17th in top largest tuna supplier to Japan, accounting for 0.6% of the total tuna imports into this market.
Taiwan, Malta and China mainly export fresh/frozen tuna to Japan while exports of canned tuna from Southeast Asian countries to the market are in a better position. Of that, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam are top 4 largest suppliers of canned tuna to the market. Imports of this item from Vietnam into Japan took up 2%.
The average import price of fresh/frozen tuna into Japan in the first three months of 2017 ranged from US$7.63 to $ 8.54/kg.
The average import price of processed/canned tuna into this market ranged from US$5.15 to $5.21/kg.
Currently, canned tuna from Vietnam has to compete strongly with the same item from Thailand and the Philippines.
