Vietnam to have a market for tuna auctions

(vasep.com.vn) This was one of the key orientations in the draft project on reorganizing the tuna production chain conducted by Vietnam Directorate of Fisheries (D-Fish).

A new market for tuna auctions is hoped to reduce the dependence of local fishermen on “black credit” and middle traders. The project will also invest in renewal of tuna fishing metal boats and boats purchasing fresh raw fish on sea, as well as undertake a pilot management of tuna exports by quota.

Vietnam expects its stocks of yellowfin tuna, bigeye tuna and skipjack tuna to reach 600 thousand MT; in which, skipjack tuna accounts for 50 percent. The project will be realized in the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa with two phases of 2014 – 2015 and 2016 – 2020.
