Previously, Earth Island Institute (EII) had a warning that tuna catching by trawl or gill-net falsed to meet standards of Dolphin Conservation Program in Global Tuna Trade.
Since late 2013, Vasep Tuna Club, under VASEP, has organized 2 meetings with representatives of Earth Island Institute (EII). Along with these, some internal meetings in Vietnam were held with the participation of the leaders from Directorate of Fisheries, Department of Capture Fisheries and Fisheries Resources Protection and Sub-departments of Capture Fisheries and Fisheries Resources Protection in key provinces for tuna fishing.
These meetings aimed at creating a program to support Vietnam tuna production companies whilst ensuring commitments in the tuna fishing, trading compliance with Dolphin Conservation Program in Global Tuna Trade.
One of the key activities in this program is “Dolphin Safe” media program. This program includes printing “Dolphin safe” stickers, posting stickers on tuna fishing vessels, fishing ports, trading desks in fishing ports of 7 tuna fishing provinces namely Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria Vung Tau, Tien Giang and Kien Giang.
