VASEP, Sri Lanka make ESE announcements

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors spoke this week at the 2013 European Seafood Exposition (ESE) about its commitment to improving and spotlighting the quality of its seafood exports.

“The food safety quality of Vietnam aqua products is always good and faithful to the motto: ‘Clean from the breeding, the farms, to the dining table of every family,’” VASEP said.

Right now, VASEP officials said they are in the process of reviewing the country’s seafood industry, in response to harsh criticism about the quality of the country’s exports.

In other news, Sri Lanka intends on becoming a leader for sustainable fisheries in the South Asian region.

The Hon. Rajitha Senaratne, Sri Lanka’s minister of fisheries and aquatic resource development, addressed a reception during the ESE. The country has promoted long line tuna fishing as the most sustainable fishery and an important export.

The fisheries sector has input controls on tuna fishing, including reduced gill netting, promotion of long lining, banning purse seining and trawling. The fisheries sector is heavily promoting its work on preventing illegal, unregulated and undocumented fishing, as well as increasing the traceability of its products.
