(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's tuna exports to the Netherlands has continued to grow steadily. Notably, sales of fresh/live/frozen tuna increased by nearly 131% over the same period, which put the market to be the second largest importer of Vietnam in the EU.
According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnamese exports to the Netherlands in April 2018 valued at US$1.3 million, an increase of 27% compared to April 2017; the figure in the first four months amounted to US$7.6 million, up 45% over the same period in 2017.
In particular, exports of live/fresh/frozen tuna accounted for more than 88% of the total value of tuna exports to the Netherlands. Compared to the same period of 2017, exports of fresh/live/frozen and dried tuna to this market this year tended to go up, while those of canned/processed tuna decreased.
In the first three months of this year, the Netherlands boosted tuna imports. Tuna imports in the first quarter of 2018 reached US$77 million, up 1.5% over the same period. However, in March 2018, tuna imports into this country began to tend to decrease over the same period last year. This was driven by a fall in imports of canned tuna and fresh/live/frozen tuna into this country except for frozen tuna loins/fillets.
Vietnam currently ranked the 6th largest supplier to the Netherlands. However, Vietnam held as the largest supplier of frozen tuna loins/fillets to this market, accounting for nearly 55% of total import value of this item from Vietnam.
